I think that the yellow flower looks nice and fresh. I think that the bumblebee agrees with me. 

I do think that bags are more environmentally friendly than the hard plastic shell containers when you’re got something like lettuce leaves, as opposed to a pre-made salad. I think that those who package the food need to be concious of their packaging choices. i hope sometime soon that the most environmentally friendly packages will become the industry standard for food containers, and not something ’special’ that the consumer will be charged extra money for. Doing your best to help out the planet needs to be the norm, not the exception.   

Since the package used for this pre-made salad has a clear plastic lid, it would have been a good idea if the salad inside looked fresh and appetizing. The iceburg lettuce and the pale pink ham look as though  they’ve been in cold storage or something. If the salad looks like it would be served on an airline (in the coach section, no less), then you might not want to show it off like this. Here are some more fresh, yummy-looking veggies and fruits at Trader Joe’s. I’ll have to try one of those Mojitos next time!

putting a big mixed pre-made salad in a hard shell plastic package makes sense- there are multiple ingredients involved, as well as salad dressing, and the container also acts as a salad bowl to eat from. but what about these uncooked artichokes being housed in the same packaging? i don’t think so! Here are several of the pre-made salads that i purchased at Trader Joe’s the other day. I was inspired to buy these salads because they looked so good in the store; i’m happy to say that they tasted really good, too! (photo taken in my kitchen)

The packages for the Fresh Express lettuces and salads also include a couple of recipes printed on the back. This is really cool; I’ve actually made both of the dishes listed on the back of this spinach pack, and they got 2 thumbs up at my house!
